80's Songs and Music in Movies
68The Best 80's Music and Songs Were Soundtracks
Movie soundtracks were golden in the 80's. The songs and music of the 80's put to movies marked a high point in the music industry. I will list a few of my favorites, and as fans of the decade want to add someone while we still have it on video please comment at the end of the page on your wish list. Please remember that the theme of this webpage is the contribution of Rock and Roll performers to the soundtracks. In many cases the biggest hit was not by a rock star. That hit won't be included here.
Movie soundtracks often were made without the artist being associated with the hit song. Probably only a handful of people even knew that National Lampoon's Holiday Road was written and performed by Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham.
The eighties were a fabulous time of creativity for comic movie makers. With the Saturday Night Live people making great movies, it was easy for creative minds to employ competent and successful actors. A good script wouldn't get lost, because the movies had star power. These movie hits had major star power and fantastic songs. I picked my favorite songs and the biggest stars of rock who sang them, though many did not know who actually performed the songs at the time:
Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac: Holiday Road
Glen Frey of the Eagles: The Heat Is On
Kenny Loggins: I'm Alright
Kenny Loggins: Footloose
Billy Squier: Rock Me Tonight
Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac: Sleeping Angel
Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers and Jennifer Warnes: I'v Had the Time of My Life
Journey: Open Arms
Phil Collins: Take a Look at Me Now
1983: National Lampoon's Vacation: Holiday Road

Thank you for the trip down memory lane.
The Wayne's World soundtrack has Tia Carrere doing a version of Ballroom Blitz. Now Tia is by no means a 'rock star', but she is a bonified musical artist with 3 albums under her belt, her first in 1993.
Since I first heard Ballroom Blitz in the mid 70's (Sweet) I've loved it. Tia's version is, well, a tad weak compared to the orginal and other versions (The Damned/Surf Punks/Krokus, etc) but it's one of my favs of the 80's soundtrack tunes.
Yes, this was a trip down memory lane though to this day I'm stuck in the 60's and 70's and all the classic rock from the time. Fun Hub.
OK, allow me please to suggest another excellent tune by an already established rocker: 'Fast Times' by Billy Squier for the move Fast Times At Ridgemont High.
A trip down memory lane though a little after me
Some great songs there listening to one now, thanks for reminding of some brilliant music.

I grew up in the 60's and none of this stuff was of any interest to me, with the exception of Bill Medley but even his earlier stuff with Bobby was much better. I was more into The Clash and Bob Marley in the 80's. Good hub!! Peace!!
